Canadian study into online learning

A recent article in Contact North reports on the main outcomes of a key Canadian study into online learning.  It showed that Ontario had over 20,000 online courses available from its colleges and universities and that these generated some 485,619 registrations, making Ontario Canada’s leader in online learning. The data also revealed that colleges lead universities in the proportion of their courses available online (23% versus 7%), indicating what the opportunities are for expanding the sector’s online learning provision. Colleges also lead in terms of the number of programs with 20% of college programs available online compared to 6% of university programs.

European kids more likely to be players than makers

A study recently published by from Latitudeº 42s titled “Children’s Future Requests for Computers & the Internet” investigated what children aged 12 and under expect from technology in the future. Children all over the world were invited to participate in the study which not only provides interesting insight into what children want from technology, such as the desire to interact with the technology more intuitively but also revealed some interesting regional differences.

Study into the use of ICT for the assessment of Key Competences

This study being carried out by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies will look at how ICT can support modernising schools and education and training practices by exploring assessment strategies that adequately capture all dimensions of the key competences for the 21st century, for all learners.
